Smart Living Labs

Nowadays in more and more industries products need to be tested and validated in real-life kind of environments, this is a reason for many companies and Research Institute to implement more and more Living Labs, for researchers and developers to produce and test their innovations.

What is a Living Lab?

This is a difficult question to answer since no one has a universal definition of it, many users have defined them as real or virtual environments where participants od the “quadruple helix” can collaborate to create new solutions for complex societal problems.

The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) defines Living Labs as “user-centred, open innovation ecosystems based on systematic user co-creation approach, integrating research and innovation processes in real life communities and settings. They operate as intermediaries among citizens, research organisations, companies, cities and regions for joint value co-creation, rapid prototyping, or validation to scale up innovation and businesses”.

To create this kind of ecosystems and being able to monitor them, especially for healthcare and societal research, products are needed different kind of technologies like cv-cameras, thermal detectors, or sensors to detect the presence or absence of people, their bio-signals, habits, and many other things.

Sensing Tex as a specialist in seamless sensorial technology and with our range of Sensing Mats with bedding, seating and flooring applications we are currently part of different Smart living labs around the world, helping researchers and developers to validate products or papers in a Smart way.
